alright. i've noticed that few of my posts, especially in the photography appreciation subforum have mysteriously disappeared, and this is rather irritating especially when the mod who have deleted it does not give a reason for doing so, which i believe should be of basic courtesy.

the question here is: what type of comments are allowed to be posted, and which are not?

i remember reading something about it being an APPRECIATION thread, hence comments on the pictures are not allowed to be posted or something.

HOWEVER, if the mods want to adhere to this rule strictly, then posts like "great pictures", "thanks for sharing the great pictures", "nice pics", "good work", "really great pic", "nice work", etc should be deleted as well, as they are classifieds as "comments" too. UNLESS, the mods are practising double standards and allow posts that praise the poster, while deleting posts that critic the poster, i do not believe that the comments i've posted in that subforum should be deleted.

it would be great if the HPH admin team gives an answerto my question regarding the type of comments that are allowed to be posted. it would be nice too if a decision is made regarding comments allowed to be posted in the Photography Appreciation subforum.

warmest rgds
chaych

PS: if the rules for posting is different for any sub-forum, the very least the admins should do is to post a Rules and Regulation in that particular subforum and sticky it.

Hi Chaych,

I believe our Moderating Team has made ourselves very clear previously that we do not allow photography critics in the Photography Appreciation subform.

Quote:

I suggest you keep the comments to yourself, give suggestions to threadstarter for tips or solutions. The sub-forum says Photography Appreciation, not Photography Critic. The forum's contribution is made mainly by amateurs like ourselves.

I respect the people who have the courage to post their works for everyone's viewing pleasure. As long you have anything interesting that you wish to share with the forumers, you may do so in the Photography Appreciation threads.

The reason why I discourage critics on these photography is because the argument of factors (eg : over/under-exposure) issues will run non stop without a final statement. I do not give comments simply I do not have a Masters of Photography or done any fantastic work to call myself a professional.

The Moderating Team would also like to see healthy exchange of pointers than photography critics with no solutions. We will not discourage amateurs and beginners from stepping forward to post their works.

The Moderating Team reserved all rights to delete all inappropriate and one-liner posts made in the Forum. We will PM the first timers. Subsequently, we will delete the post without notice.

The Forum is in progress of revising the Forum Posting Guidelines, Rules and Regulations.

Here is my answer to all the doubts.

This is a free forum and all the members didn't pay a single cent for the privileges. The Moderating Team and I(admin) reserves all the rights to delete all inappropriate posts.

Replies like "I've purchase/got my Mylar-One", "nice pic", "good work" and etc are one-liner posts and they don't serve any good information to the forum. Many other big forums which are very organized, even delete the repeating offender's account without warning if repeated cases like such happens all the time.We also do not allow offensive remarks which may invite troubles especially in the appreciation sub-forums. Take a break, it's merely an appreciation thread, it's not some flaming thread which you see in other forums.

The Classifieds is also for the benefit of our members to help clear out their stuffs and its is NOT a place for you to make profits or to harm the local dealers. Please appreciate the kindness and don't take the sub-forum for granted.

Lastly, the language use matter. We aim and strive to an achieving forum, therefore not only the forum but the members have to learn and progress. Using of "SMS-languages" and short-forms are NOT advised.

NOTE: We did not say that using "SMS-languages" and short-forms is against the forum rules but please refrain from excessive usage.

Regarding the matter about Deleting and Editing without noticing/warning, I will look into it.

If there is anymore unhappiness/dissatisfaction, do PM me.

regards,
ahdui(admin)

Having just been roped in to help moderate this forum a few days ago, I should stand neutral among both sides. Whatever I say is from my own experience with participating and moderating other forums, none are audio related though.

chaych my friend, do you really not see a difference between your comments and those from other members? I stumbled upon several of your "still existing" posts at the "Photography Appreciation" sub-forum and it seemed to me that you were clearly trying too hard. I can just so imagine what have been deleted prior to me joining this forum.

For the record, as Moderators, we do not practice double standards. We judge posts for what they are, and edit/delete those that we deem inappropriate. If it so happens that most of the posts that were deleted belonged to you and not others, then shouldn't the problem lie with you instead?

It is also unnecessary to tell anyone what is allowed or disallowed to be said here because this is a FREE OPEN FORUM. Everyone is free to say anything they want, UNTIL we come across something that we deem unsuitable. It is then when we take the necessary steps by editing/deleting. This process is kept "one way" to keep matters simple and straightforward. Period.

More often than not, Rules are discovered, set and adjusted along the way as the forum matures, when the Admin Team sees fit. Prematurely setting rules and regulations would just serve to stifle the growth of the community. Besides, you should be able to identify whats wrong with your posts yourself. I do not think the police have to educate the entire population on every law this country is governed by, and tell you everything that can or cannot be done in public, do they? They will just arrest and charge you in court once they spot something wrong. They do not owe you for a living, and neither do we. Mind you, this is from a government that we all pay taxes to, and the thing we have in common is that we are constantly striving to make the community a better place, and surely it does not revolve just around a few individuals here.

Granted when I first received the brief for this forum, I personally felt certain rules were pretty strict for an open online forum, but hey, this forum "belongs" to the few people who started it so shouldn't we at least respect how these people would like to run this place, instead of questioning them why/how they are doing it? They have set up this forum voluntarily, and I am sure you joined voluntarily.

And yes, The Forum is in progress of revising the Forum Posting Guidelines, Rules and Regulations. Please stay tuned.

Thank You.
O.P.
