Hi guys, I was thinking of starting a few threads on recommendations, what do u think?

So for instance, there will be Recommend me an OST thread..

Then u guys get to post all the OSTs that you know, complpete with album pictures (small size such as 200x200 preferred, hosted on your own), then give a short and simple description.. same like What Are You Listening To Now.. but in a more organised manner..

Just to show that we are a music loving community, however I want to ask opinions from you guys before starting.. because this thread needs contribution and alot of writeups and some hard work put in before posting it up.. are u guys eager to take it on?

(I know Valerie can write about Queen stuff, that'll be under Recommend me a Rock album thread then :P)

So, is this feasible or not?

My aim is to spread the love for music, and generate people to buy more CDs and enjoy it more.

What say you?

(And we can start accumulating posts back @ What Are you Listening To Now again..)

Also, would like to seek opinions on what type of threads should we consider.

-Blues
-Jazz
-Classical (movements, concertos)
-Rock
-Vocal
-Instrumental (piano, non-classical, trumpets)
-New Age
-OST

Actually, all the groupings are kind of blurry as Miles Davis plays the trumpet, so he should be under instrumental but his type of playing is considered Jazz as well.. etc etc.

What do you think?
Sorry for the long post, Thanks for reading!

Hi Tops, may i suggest that we first...

1. Determine (in this thread?) the type of recomendation threads that will be posted.
2. Start a poll to determine the number of people that listens or are knowledgeable in which kind of music
3. Group those with a smaller population size into the same thread so as to prevent a "cluttered" forum? Delete those which no one listens to...
4. Try it out after that?

So to start... (Copied most from TopGun)

Types of threads:
-Blues
-Jazz
-Classical (movements, concertos)
-Rock
-Vocal
-Instrumental (piano, non-classical, trumpets)
-New Age / World Music
-OST
-R&B / Soul
-Pop (English/Chinese/Other Languages)
-Metal
-Alternative / Indie Rock
-Rap / HipHop
-Electronica / Dance
-Best Album You Own in 200x (x=5,6,7,8.. lala..)

IMHO, the poll should have more choices so as to avoid someone saying thigs like " I feel Nursery Rhymes should be involved in this poll, this poll sux!!!!1111, %^&^&*, *($%#!.. " just kidding, :peace:

Also agree that pictures should be posted and if possible links to related webbies, where to get the album, etc.. be provided too...

Thanks for reading my long thread!
Any suggestions?

hmm.. Miles Davis is under Jazz thou.. not instrumental..

Yeah, TG i tot it would be a good idea.. thou the write-up could take some effort..

We should not restrict to the list of genre from above, as there are lots of genre in the market.. ideally as mentioned, we could come out with a poll (good idea) to "Interest Check" on the genres our forummers are most like to be indulged on.. rather than listing every single genre in the forum..

I tot it will be great to separate each genre to each topic, than forummers can have a better segregation of wat they are interested in..

Lets get e ball rolling.. for those not sure how to upload their CD Cover, u can

1. visit http://photobucket.com/ (there are other image sharing website to choose frm) and upload the pix there

2. copy the pix link and post them here by choosing the "http://" button on top of the msgbox to insert the pix..

3. enjoy the pix!@~

i could do some write-up abt Mile's.. but im going to get back to some listening.. jus bought his "Someday My Prince Will Come" CD.. nice!@~

Thanks for the suggestion guys!
I may just do that.. although I want to keep the segregation of groups into as minimal as possible..

Maybe greassroot music, indie music, similar feeling ones can be grouped under "The Blues and Jazz" or something.. what do u guys suffest then?

@cruise :
Yeah, effort must be done, that sort of encourgaes people to listen to their CDs more.. hehe!

@Gecko :
Thanks!

As I was saying, I was thinking of adding another subsection to here, on regarding the latest news in the music/arts scene in Singapore.. like concerts, and stuff, and we can have discussions as well..

Anyone starting the thread? Or the poll for which sections?

This, in my opinion, seems to be a real good idea - especially in a time when we are more of "musicphiles" than stereo junkies.

SO

How about the following:

- Blues and Jazz
- Country and Folk
- Classical (movements, concertos)
- Rock and Metal
- Vocals and Opera
- Instrumental (piano, non-classical, trumpets)
- New Age / World Music
- Original Soundtracks
- R&B / Soul
- Pop (English/Chinese/Other Languages) --> Actually, we do have to define what Pop is.
- Alternative / Indie Rock
- Rap / HipHop
- Electronica / Dance
- Local Music (Anything goes here, as long as it's Singaporean)

(Copied from Apoplectic Gecko". Must list source, otherwise it's considered as plagarism :P)

Would like to clarify something. Are we creating individual thread for each genre? Or a single thread for all genres. If it's the former, mods will have to work extra hard to move reviews into the correct genres, due to people like me who sometimes can't really tell apart some genres. :P

Why, thank you Aaron for this nice input.

You sure put in effort in writing posts, unlike some of our other online friends out there, and for this, kudos! :kowtow:

Hmm, that's a very nice grouping but I hope let's start it small first.
Moderating and grouping them isn't a problem as I can be volunteering my services and time for the sake of the music community.

I believe so too, that we are a bunch of music loving people, but I believe people wont be that free to share their music experiences online.

But for those who do, we can build up on this and safekeep a whole wealthy stack of music information for others to enjoy, so I hope others can contribute more to this "online potluck" of ours - at HeadphoneHaven.

Let's start it step by step.
Just post everything per normal and maybe we'll see how it goes.

You can start any thread on whatever review you want to do, or ask about.

Let's get ready for the warming spirit of Christmas!

(Now I dread Chinese New Year, thanks PAP!) :xmas:

How about individuals posting their top 5 favourite CDs and explaining why?

They can also describe the best pairing to suit the CDs and offer additional information, music grouping and prices.

I suggest we start the thread as in something like this with the

Album Review - <Title of Album> by <Band/Artiste>

For example:

Album Review - Happenstance by Rachael Yamagata

Will do one soon, on the album Happenstance, a bit "poppy", but there's some "rawness" in it, which I find real appealing.

Completed review! :D

Is the format alright?

The

[
Album Review - <Title of Album> by <Band/Artiste>

Caption : Genre - <Genre of Music>
]

Seems to work rather well.
